According to the English dictionary, a boutique hotel is a stylish, small hotel, typically one situated in a fashionable urban location. Of the many boutique hotels that I have stayed in on my travels, Casa Veintiuno in Sosua, Dominican Republic is the best.

Atmosphere 

If you picked up any trendy interior design magazine and looked inside, you would find cool and contemporary furnishings and styles. That’s what you get at Casa Veintiuno. Luxurious rooms that are tastefully decorated with European designer touches, from the comfortable sofas in the bedrooms and living rooms, to the high-end marble finishes of the bathrooms and showers.

Chic details abound, including tasteful artwork, elegant glass flower pots and a telescope that you can use to view the sky and stars at night.

Comparing it to any hotel, not just in Sosua, but anywhere in the Dominican Republic, you will be hard pushed to find anywhere that beats it in terms of top end luxury, attention to detail and style.

If you are looking for a relaxing and romantic vacation then this is the place for you. From the moment we arrived and were welcomed by our hosts Saskia and Marc and their amazingly friendly and lovely rescue dogs we felt that we were home away from home.

Amenities 

The amenities at Casa Veintiuno are superb. The pool is intimate and surrounded by cushioned lounge chairs and relaxers. Not exactly the typical deck chairs that you find at many hotels, but very comfortable designer models.

One of the first things I was told when I initially went to the Dominican Republic was not to drink water from the tap, but only drink bottled water. At Casa Veintiuno we didn’t have to worry about that. All the water from the taps is certified, safe to drink water.

In the bedrooms are robes that are plusher than those at some of the best spas and hotels. I enjoyed being in them so much that I was tempted to take them home with me.

The on-site fitness centre caters very well for those that want to do a bit of exercise while away from home. A treadmill and elliptical cycle were amongst the useful equipment installed.

There is free wifi obtainable throughout and having spent time in many hotels in the Dominican Republic where I was charged extra for internet use, I know how useful this is.

Location 

Situated in a secluded location, Casa Veintiuno is just five minutes’ walk from the lovely sandy Sosua beach and also five minutes’ walk from downtown Sosua.

You can you be at the centre of the action in town or relaxing, sipping a rum punch and tucking into Big D’s famous ribs on Sosua beach in less than no time.

If you wish to visit Puerto Plata town it is only 25 minutes’ drive. Being just ten minutes’ drive from the main Puerto Plata airport means you won’t have a long transfer after your flight as well.

Restaurant 

Rated #1 of 92 restaurants in Sosua, a wholesome breakfast is served daily at Casa Veintiuno. This consists of fruit juice, tea or coffee, cereals, croissants, toast, bread or rolls along with fresh fruit, yoghurt and granola.

The restaurant is open for evening meals from Wednesday to Sunday serving extremely fresh food of the highest quality.

Marc only cooks with fresh ingredients so you can be guaranteed that the fish on the menu, for instance, is caught that same day by the local fishermen.

They have an open kitchen where you can not only see but also smell the quality of the meals being prepared. The portions are generous, service is excellent and whatever you do, don’t forget to try their chocolate mousse.

Saskia & Marc (and Pooka, Botti & Maximus)

 Saskia and Marc who are the owners, give you such a personalised service here that you will understand why their guests keep coming back year after year. You are treated not just like members of the family but special members of the family.

You are not a room number when it comes to Saskia and Marc. Every morning you are greeted at breakfast with a welcoming smile from them and a happy wag of the tail from their rescue dogs Pooka, Botti and Maximus.

Because of their attention to detail with everything, you can rest assured that your stay at Casa Veintiuno will not only be a relaxing and pleasant, but also one of the best you have experienced.
